Needless to say, Bungie is very secretive on all fronts and any news on a new Halo game - other than Halo 3 - is at least a year or two away. Microsoft also denies it's working on a Halo MMO. But it's by an independent studio working with Bungie and it's an MMO, rather than internally created at Bungie. IGN's sources are confident that a new Halo game is in the works. As of late, Bungie has been a lot more open about its past with Halo, possibly due to its own 30th anniversary, and the 20th anniversary of Halo.

Halo Infinite isn't just another Halo game, but a platform for all future Halo games.

The story claims an exploratory game is being developed by Project Lead Jason Jones and Programmer Chris Butcher, while a second team is working on another new game. I do think it was their full intentions to make Destiny while still at Microsoft either as a new IP or part of a spin-off of Halo.
